North Saskatchewan River: Multibeam Echosounder

In 2016, MSI had the opportunity to aid a client in determining if there was a pipeline exposed in the North Saskatchewan River. Convetional pipe-locating and bathymetric methods were conflicting and another method was needed in determining if any of the pipe was exposed in the riverbed. MSI was able to deploy its multi-beam echosounder to map the bottom of the river creating a geo-referenced point cloud surface depicting everything within the scope of the work area. From the point cloud, a digital elevation model (DEM) was created to show reliefs of the surface depicting rip rap that had fallen from the banks into the river, sand waves, and pipe trenches.
