  • Pipeline Integrity, Depth of Cover Surveys
    • MSI specializes in Depth of Cover (DOC) pipeline surveys throughout Alberta and British Columbia. These are detailed topographic surveys at potentially high risk areas of the pipeline such as at watercourse crossings or slopes. In these surveys we profile the pipe and provide crucial information regarding the terrain surrounding the area of interest on the pipe.

Project specifications vary, but typical deliverables include profile and contoured plan views of the pipe, detailed watercourse information including water flow values upstream, downstream, and at the pipe, terrestrial and aerial photos, and an overlay of the survey onto in-house or thirdparty aerial images. We also provide the linework of the pipe, features, and contours in kmz format for viewing on GoogleEarth’s platform.

      Tools in our toolbox:

      • Multi-Frequency Pipe Locators
      • Ground Penetrating Radar
      • Geodetic grade single beam, multibeam, and sidescan sonar capabilities
      • Legal Right-of-Way Boundary expertise (Alberta)
      • Extensive experience determining accurate DOC at water crossings of all sizes

  • Deformation & Subsidence Monitoring
    • MSI has extensive expertise in deformation monitoring system design, measurement technique, and post-survey processing and analysis. Past projects range in size from hydro-electric dams and very large retaining dikes to gas turbine engines and petroleum industry equipment . We cater our methodology (including which equipment to use and the timing of subsequent measurement campaigns) to the scope, size, and required precision of the project. Remote measurement techniques  for sites that are either dangerous to workers or sensitive to disruption can be employed. We work with our clients to ensure the resulting information is presented in a meaningful and useful format.

  • Legal Land Surveying , Municipal Surveying
    • MSI has completed Legal Subdivisions comprised of anything from a single lot descriptive plan to multi-phased subdivisions of over 250 lots. We have extensive experience working with the municipalities of the City of Calgary, the City of Airdrie, the Town of High River, the Town of Crossfield, and Rocky View County.

    • MSI has experience with Residential, Commercial and Industrial developments as well as Bareland Condominiums, Right of Ways, Roads, and other Public Works projects, and has successfully worked with large land developers and individual owners alike to complete their projects.

    • Professional land surveying services are offered for Alberta and Canada Lands.

  • Engineering Surveys
    • MSI has designed and implemented control networks for land surveying and engineering projects. Control surveys have been completed using both conventional and GPS technology. MSI has also been involved in reverse engineering projects to redesign replacement components for petroleum manufacturing plants. Specialized equipment including non-contact measuring devices has been used on such reverse engineering projects.

  • Bathymetric Surveying
    • MSI performs a variety of bathymetric surveys throughout Western Canada. The survey types include single beam bathymetry; dual frequency sub-bottom profiling, and side scan sonar imaging. MSI has proprietary data collection software and methods to successfully perform mapping of rivers and lakes. MSI has vast experience mapping fast flowing rivers throughout Alberta. Deliverables can include point cloud data or contoured bathymetric plans, contours overlayed on in-house or third party imagery, and linework including bathymetric contours in kmz format for use on GoogleEarth’s platform.  Comparison plans showing changes in a waterbody’s bottom and banks can be generated following return visits to the same area.

  • UAV Mapping and Aerial Photography
    • MSI actively stays on the cutting edge of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology and application. We are always on the lookout for new solutions to survey problems and continually add new technologies to improve the quality and precision of the information we gather.

      Deliverables include:

      • High Resolution Orthophotos (5 mm – 5 cm Resolution in RGB and/or NIR)
      • Dense Point Clouds (5 mm – 5 cm Resolution)
      • Volume and Earthworks Calculations
      • Fly-Through Animations
      • Erosion Monitoring Plans
      • “Bird’s eye view” Oblique Aerial Photos

  • Topographic Surveys & Volumetric Surveys
    • With a combinations of our various technologies, MSI is able to quickly and accurately map and deliver data.
      • Volumetric/Quantity Surveys
      • Site Surveys

  • Precision Measurement & Industrial Alignment
    • Using very precise optical and mechanical methods, MSI has extensive experience measuring and aligning machinery to extremely small tolerances. MSI has created methods and propriety software to collect and analyze measurements to a high level of accuracy in “real time”. MSI has been extensively involved in precision measurement and alignment of particle accelerator facilities both in Canada and the Unites States.

  • Real Time Remote Monitoring Systems
    • MSI has implemented real-time monitoring systems to monitor sensitive areas in remote locations. These systems provide around the clock measurements to monitor and provide advanced alerting for movement monitoring and subsidence.

  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
    • Using the combination of GPS and GPR technologies, MSI is able to accurately locate and map subsurface utilities and generate 3D images.
      • Map soil layers
      • Locate underground facilities
      • Environmental Assessments
